| Club Origin
A meeting of eleven enthusiastic walkers took place on the 17th of March 1976 in the Cults Community Centre at which Mr Lawrence Jamieson, the Assistant Community Education worker was in the Chair, in response to many enquiries as to the existence of local hillwalking groups. The outcome of that initial meeting was that a steering committee, consisting of Neil Appleton, David Coleman, Gordon Forbes, Florence Fraser, and Neil Scot was formed. At the first meeting of the group it was suggested that the first walk would be up Peter Hill and it was ascended from Waullmill, descending by the stalkers path alongside the Glasspits Burn, crossing the Feugh by a footbridge long since removed. Members travelled by mini-bus and a fleet of cars in those early days and usually three different routes were available to accommodate families. The leaders learned about the hills through first hand experience and, when Lawrence Jamieson suggested the Club tackle the Lairig an Laoigh through-walk from Aviemore to Linn of Dee, there were not sufficient numbers committed to justify a coach. The result was that two parties set out in mini buses , one to Loch Morlich and the other to the Linn of Dee, The two groups walked towards one another and when they met en-route, ignition keys were exchanged! This was a great adventure into the unknown for these early walkers many of whom were not sure whether they could walk the distance involved! In May 1978 a proposed Constitution was circulated among members and after amendment, approved and then formally adopted.

Membership
Cults Hillwalking Club is dedicated to exploring the magnificent hills and glens of Deeside, the Cairngorms and beyond. The club walks all year round and has a varied programme from flat winter walks of under 10 miles (16 km) to full days in the hills covering 16 or more miles (24 km) with ascents over 3000 feet (900 m). Therefore a reasonable level of fitness is important. Shorter options are normally offered for those who wish to walk at a more leisurely pace and for new members to gauge their abilities. Membership is open and guests are welcome to join us on a club outing before becoming a member. The continuing success of the club depends on members' active participation, including encouraging new members to join us. The membership fee for the membership year running from September 2010 to August 2011 has been kept the same as the previous year at £20. Persons wishing to enquire about Membership should contact the Chair or the Membership Secretary or attend one of the evening meetings at the Cults Community Education Centre.

| Clothing
The following are recommended to be worn or carried. "3 Season" Walking boots Waterproof Jacket and overtrousers Fleece or warm pullover (with additional warm layer in backpack) Gloves Hat Spare Socks Gaiters are also advisable

| Equipment
Each club member is recommended to carry the following items on all outings Compass Whistle Appropiate map(s) Torch Survival Bag Adhesive dressings & blister pads (Compeed or similar) Food and drink for the day Sun Cream/ Sun glasses/ Sunhat as appropriate to weather forecast

| Responsibility/ Insurance
Members of the Club and their guests participate in the activities of the Club at their own risk. No responsibility can be accepted by the Committee or the Club for any mishaps that may occur. The annual membership fee of the Cults Hillwalking Club includes the cost of insurance covered by the Ramblers’ Association ( RA) civil liability insurance scheme.
For this insurance to be valid, guests or prospective new members will be expected to join the Club and pay the membership fee if they wish to continue walking more than twice in a season.(For further details see Members’ Information leaflet 2010-11)

Exclusion
The Committee or their nominees reserve the right to exclude from an activity those they feel should not attempt that activity.

Dogs
The company which provides the buses for our trips has a policy of strictly no dogs on the bus. If Members travel to
any walk independently they may take their dogs but must obtain prior permission from the relevant Estate and must
keep them under strict control at all times.
